- Some general concern when the computer manufacturer says that only the very new and not-entirely road tested Vista is available for your new computer...
- A bit of worry when it turns out none of your newly purchased hardware works with Vista. But that's okay. There must be workarounds or new drivers...
- Some real concern when finding out new drivers aren't available and won't be 'for an undetermined while' (3 hours and 4 manufacturers)--- and that getting back to XP will require a jump through a Dell fire hoop
Then it's into the Dell phone labyrinth... only to emerge into a murky light of connection with those who seem 'unsure'....
Finally, there is (possible) redemption when a final and third Support Representative points out the 'Properties, Compatibility = Windows XP' option on the .exe files upon install. Thank you to the representative at extension 5674*** for handing out a bit of Vista salvation.
I'm going to hold onto your phone extension like a cat hangs onto a thready blanket while suspended over a large pool of water.
My First Day With My New Dell Computer
Ah yes the Dell customer support experience. A family member of mine had an equally un-fulfilling encounter with them recently.
At least you got your problem sorted out - fingers crossed!

Thanks, Geedos! Yes, things are back on track for now, but Vista surely is making to road a rocky one!

Thats why my 3 computers run XP. They are Dell as I have had great service from them but the support? I wont even go there! Not going to switch to Vista for a long time due to the problems everyone is having.

Ohhhh honey, get a Mac! You'll love the way it seamlessly handles peripherals, and the graphics manipulation software like Aperture are a photographer's dream. Once you go Mac, you'll never go back ;o)
(very happy Mac user for 5 & 1/2 years)

Oh how I wish I could. Years ago I managed development of Mac software, and loved the system. Sadly, I work with so many companies that are windows focused (where compatibility is an issue) that I can only dream of Mac, and buy the occasional toy (iPhone, iPod) to make myself feel better :). Some day!
