Rain smells differently in different places. The ozoney smell I remember from rains in the Mountain West is very rare, I find, east of the Rockies.

But the Earth smell, the wet leaves and decaying twigs, that rises from a storm in the Appalachians . . . aah.

Ah yes - that reminds me of Fall in the NorthEast where I grew up. That smell of leaves was pervasive once all the leaves dropped down to the ground -- very earthy, and heralding the change of seasons.
