Otres Beach, South Coast of Cambodia
Coming home from a night on the town, our staff was running around in a panic. A poisonous viper was found sitting behind one of them in a chair. I rushed in to take a look (never having seen a poisonous snake on the loose before), and saw a skinny, nearly 3 foot long, brown and white snake with a triangular head. Our security man and the viper were in a stand off with just a broom between them.
Sadly, the snake was ultimately killed, given all the staff sleep outside and could not risk a bite. While understandable, I couldn't help but think that nature usually comes up short when it meets with humans.
When I asked one of our staff about the kind of snake, he simply said "Kills people. Very bad." Enough said.
